Why a Cleanse? Jus by Julie Unboxing

November 14, 2018 by Rachel Leave a Comment

Buckle up friends… I’m back, and this one not exactly a #walloftext, but it’s close.

I started posting my cleanse journey on Instagram and received so many questions that I wanted to preface my review with the why. Why did I do a cleanse? I have recently walked through a very stressful and tumultuous time in my life… complete with moving states, my mother in law passing away and then changing jobs. To say it’s been rough would be an understatement. I did something during this time that, in the past, I have never done… I stress ate. I can’t even tell you the number of Werther’s Chewy Carmels I consumed over the last six months, and I can probably count the number of healthy meals I’ve eaten on one hand.

I became addicted to sugar, and while I lost weight due to stress and not really eating well, I became what my husband affectionately called “skinny fat.” Meaning I looked good on the outside, but felt like crap on the inside. My energy level was way down, my motivation was zapped, I was sleeping all the time and emotionally I was hanging on by a thread. I thought this was all due to the depression I felt because of my mother in law suddenly passing away… but my body was telling me something else. I knew something needed to change, drastically and immediately.

I had been talking with my (former) co-workers for a while about doing a 3-day juice cleanse, and we were going to jump in and do it together. After listening to a podcast from Rachel Hollis (Girl, Wash Your Face), I decided I was no longer going to wait for “tomorrow”… I was going to do this, and I was going to do it right.

So I did what any white girl from America does when looking to do a juice cleanse… I went to Groupon. Luckily, they had a 3 day cleanse special for only $70 (nice!), however after going on the Jus by Julie website I couldn’t use it because they had the 3 day cleanse on sale already! So, I banked the Groupon to use after the holidays, and jumped on the special (regular price pictured below).

So for $100 (sale + shipping), I received 18 juices and 3 protein shakes. When you order online you get the option to choose your “receive by” date, so you can start the cleanse on your schedule. The juices are overnighted in a Styrofoam box with ice packs, and a cleanse guide.  The goal is no food, dairy or meat for 3 days to “reset” your system.

What’s great is that it’s all self-explanatory. The juices are numbered, and rubber banded together by day, so you literally throw the juice in your fridge and grab them out by number. The juices are blended (not pressed), so the green ones are a little thicker than a pressed juice, but it’s not like you’re chewing your drink. You also have to consume all of the juice within 4 days (no problem!), or they keep in the freezer for 4 weeks. I was only able to get through 5 juices per day before the 2 hour before bed cutoff, so I froze the 3 extra and the protein drinks to have later.

To tell you that I feel amazing isn’t even half of it. I can’t wait to give you all my full review (the good, the real, amazing and not so amazing) in a few days. You will all want try some version of this either before or after the holiday season.

TTFN!
